About Shika - The La' Shika Bridal story
"Much of my life has been about clothes and fashion and I wish to spread that passion".
Shika is a Thai born New Zealand designer and has lived much of her life overseas, having spent time moving in diplomatic circles within many different societies. One of Shika's contributions was her combining of her interest in charity and her love of fashion by designing formal wear for charity events. Shika also attended many formal functions herself and has a true understanding of bridal and special occasion fashion and the desires of different cultures.
Returning to New Zealand, Shika decided to train in the fashion industry by attending the New Zealand Institute of Fashion Technology. Shika completed her studies and following her love of fashion started working with one of New Zealand's top designer labels.
Shika then went into business creating the La' Shika Couture label, specialising in bridal and special occasion fashion. Her passion and signature designs are becoming increasingly well known - she has sold out her own fashion show and created a design worn by the winner of the 2010 Miss Wellington competition, and has been commissioned to design an evening gown for the overall winner of the 2011 competition to take to Miss Universe.
Shika's own designs have also appeared on the cover of NZ Bride & Groom Magazine, Wedding Dream Magazine and she has featured with articles each year since 2007 in the Dominion Post Wedding Magazine.
Inspiration
"Shika combines an evening dress concept with contemporary bridal fashion"
Shika's designs are inspired by soft flowing styles, evening dress fashion and her other love of dance. Her dresses are fitting and flattering for any woman, allowing freedom of movement, whilst defining femininity and stating confidence.
She understands that each gown is a work of art and a very individual piece. She makes innovative use of silks, lace and soft fabrics to complete and finish each gown, such as creating flowers made of the dress fabric, ruffling and matching head pieces.
